This is how we chose to celebrate the 12/12/12 date of this century! It was a beautiful winter day, a clear blue sky with bright sunlight and a balmy 30 degrees, more or less.
After much thought , we decided to make our special day a very small, private event. We did, however, want to include my Mother. At the frisky age of 94, there are fewer and fewer opportunities for her to feel special. And this was our plan. She was given the task of arranging our tiny "reception". After the very brief (3 minutes) wedding ceremony in Titusville, performed by Judge Amy Nicols, we returned to Mother's home where she had spent much time and effort, polishing one silver tray and three forks. The table was set with a beautiful red cloth, vintage candle sticks belonging to some long ago relative, white candles, wine goblets and glass etched plates. She also had the honor of placing the cake topper on the cake we brought with us. It was such a warm and special time with her. I hope the rest of "our" family in the area will understand how much we wanted to share this time with just her. She felt special, and even wore her "fine" jewelry to celebrate with us. All the while, I could see memories of her past wedding coming to the surface and then receeding as she enjoyed TWO pieces of cake and we talked about all things important to her. She relived moments from her past as we enjoyed some sparkling wine. ( thanks for the wine Suzanne!) It was a beautiful time we will never forget. Thank you Mother for sharing your life and your stories with us. We love you....
