We took our walking sticks and the camera and embarked on a short tour of the grounds immediately surrounding our home, just to see what is blooming. What fun to discover Spring. Most of the plants I am not able to identify but I DO know this is forsythia.

Oh, your Hellebores are fabulous! I didn't know we could grow them this far north - I'm going to have to check into putting a few in, as I left all mine behind in NC. THANK you for sharing those photos.

Being botanically challenged, I have no idea which ones those are, but I am glad I have them!
All four bottom photos are hellebores - Lenten rose. They'll last a nice long time, as those aren't really petals. They should get thick enough to divide and spread out in other shady areas (in a couple years) if you're so inclined.
Wow thanks Sue! Just the kind of information I am needing. Of course, none of this flora is ANYTHING like what we were used to in New Mexico. What a different world.....

Isn't it funny how much you are affected by a change in planting zone? When we moved to NC from MN, I told everyone I felt like I was learning a foreign language when I started gardening! Well, bug and bird identification was loaded with new-to-me things, too. Gerry used to find me standing at the window, unmoving, bird identification book in hand.
